My introduction to the breed started in 1976 when I bought my first Irish Setter puppy purely as a pet, named Paddy. Admittedly not a very original name for an Irish Setter but it seemed to suit him. Fortunately his breeders also showed and they encouraged me to show him. I entered my first show under Mr. L. C. James of the renowned Wendover Kennels and won a third in Puppy. I was hooked to showing and spent the subsequent 45 years since actively involved in the breed at all levels.

I have been luckily enough in that time to make up 4 UK Show Champions, as well as many other C.C & Reserve C.C. winners . I awarded Challenge Certificates for the first time in 1993 and for what was to be the last time, at Crufts in 2024. However when I received your very kind invitation to judge at your Championship show in 2025 I could not refuse the chance to officiate at such a prestigious event.

During my time in Irish Setters I have judged in over 7 European countries, met countless wonderful people along the way and have made many valuable and long lasting friends, sadly, many of which are no longer with us.

I therefore look forward to the 7th June with great anticipation.
